The Association for Project Management (APM) has announced a new partnership with decision intelligence specialist Lumivero to deliver expert-led learning designed to help project professionals make better decisions in increasingly complex delivery environments.

The collaboration will see Lumivero support APM’s Real World Webinar series, providing members with practical guidance on portfolio prioritisation, scenario planning and managing uncertainty as organisations navigate larger, more interconnected programmes.

The partnership reflects a broader shift across the profession. As projects become more data-rich but also more complex, the ability to interpret information and make timely, evidence-based decisions is becoming just as important as traditional planning and delivery skills.

Supporting project professionals beyond methodology

Exclusive to APM members, the Real World Webinar series consists of 15 online learning sessions covering current challenges, emerging practices and practical solutions for project professionals at every stage of their careers.

As part of the agreement, Lumivero will deliver two specialist webinars focused on improving strategic decision-making across complex capital projects and business transformation programmes.

Topics will include scenario planning, portfolio prioritisation, decision intelligence and managing uncertainty, all areas that are becoming increasingly important as organisations balance competing investment priorities against rapidly changing economic and technological conditions.

Jackie Martin, APM’s Director of Education and Lifelong Learning, said the partnership aligns closely with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

“Having the right partnerships is an important part of our strategy to advance the science, theory and practice of project and programme management for the public benefit. Lumivero’s commitment to help people make confident decisions in complex environments is essential in an ever-changing world.”

Decision intelligence moves into the mainstream

The partnership also highlights the growing role of decision intelligence within project management.

While traditional project management has focused heavily on planning, scheduling and governance, organisations are increasingly looking for ways to improve strategic decision-making throughout programme delivery. Modern portfolio management requires leaders to understand complex interdependencies, assess multiple delivery scenarios and respond quickly as priorities evolve.

Lumivero’s technology, including its SharpCloud platform, is designed to help organisations visualise strategic portfolios, map dependencies and evaluate potential outcomes before major investment decisions are made.

Elaine Wargo, Vice President of Marketing at Lumivero, said project professionals face increasing pressure to make critical decisions despite incomplete information.

“Project professionals are under constant pressure to make high-stakes decisions with incomplete visibility into risk, dependencies and outcomes. Through this partnership with APM, we’re able to bring practical, expert-led guidance directly to the people managing that complexity every day.”

Analysis

The partnership is another example of how professional bodies are evolving beyond certification and continuing professional development to provide practitioners with practical skills that reflect the changing nature of project delivery.

Decision-making under uncertainty has become a defining capability for modern project leaders. AI, rapidly shifting market conditions, geopolitical disruption and increasingly interconnected portfolios mean that static planning techniques alone are no longer sufficient.

Rather than replacing project management fundamentals, decision intelligence tools are increasingly augmenting them by helping leaders explore different scenarios, understand portfolio-wide impacts and communicate complex information more effectively to executives and stakeholders.

For APM, partnering with specialist organisations such as Lumivero allows it to expose members to emerging disciplines that sit alongside established project management practice. As portfolio management continues to become more strategic, these capabilities are likely to become an increasingly valuable part of the professional toolkit.
