Certiprof has launched a new professional certification programme based on the internationally recognised ISO 31000:2018 risk management standard, aiming to strengthen practical risk management capability across project management, governance and business leadership.
The new ISO 31000 Risk Management Professional Certification (I31000RM™) is an individual certification designed to validate a professional’s ability to apply ISO 31000 principles within organisations, rather than certify organisations themselves.
Available through Certiprof and its global network of authorised training partners, the programme consists of eight self-paced learning modules, each requiring a minimum pass mark of 70%, followed by a capstone assessment. The full course comprises approximately 16 hours of study.
The certification targets project managers alongside professionals working in risk management, compliance, internal audit and corporate governance, reflecting the growing importance of structured risk management across complex organisational environments.
Applying ISO 31000 in practice
Rather than focusing solely on theory, the programme translates ISO 31000:2018 into practical guidance covering the complete risk management lifecycle.
Modules explore the standard’s core principles, governance frameworks, risk identification, analysis, evaluation, treatment, monitoring and reporting. Later modules introduce fictional case studies spanning healthcare, financial services and technology to demonstrate how the framework can be applied across different sectors.
According to Certiprof, the programme is intended to help professionals understand risk as “the effect of uncertainty on objectives”, reflecting ISO 31000’s broader view that risk can create both threats and opportunities.
“The purpose of risk management is the creation and protection of value. It improves performance, encourages innovation and supports the achievement of objectives,” the standard states.
Certiprof CEO Ismael Ramírez said the certification addresses growing demand for professionals capable of applying international risk management standards in real-world environments.
“This certification responds to a real need for organizations to have professionals who apply ISO 31000 beyond theory,” he said.

For project professionals, the launch reflects a wider shift towards enterprise-wide risk management becoming a core delivery capability rather than a specialist discipline.
