AMPYR Australia has announced the acquisition of Shell Energy Australia’s 50% stake in the Wellington Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in New South Wales. This acquisition makes AMPYR the sole owner of the 1,000 megawatt-hour (MWh) project.

AMPYR and Shell Energy Australia have been joint venture partners on the Wellington BESS project since October 2022. The project comprises two stages: Stage 1, with a capacity of 300 megawatts (MW) / 600 MWh, and Stage 2, with a capacity of 100 MW / 400 MWh.

AMPYR is targeting energization of Stage 1 in 2026, followed by Stage 2 in 2027. Stage 1 has already received necessary planning and grid approvals and is currently in the final stages of procurement and financing.

This acquisition marks a significant milestone for AMPYR as it strengthens its position in the Australian energy storage market.
